VW is constantly experimenting with the idea of a smaller SUV. First there was a concept based on the up! city car and now also one based on the next generation Polo. The segment is also expanding quickly and taking a bigger margin out the sales of superminis and c-segment hatchback. Competitors like the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, Renault Captur, Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008 perform extremely well and new models from Toyota, Audi, Mini, Hyundai and Kia will be introduced this year.
The new mini SUV will be offered with four-wheel drive and a choice of manual or dual-clutch auto transmissions. Its engine line-up will skip the Polo’s naturally aspirated 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrols and start with a turbocharged version of the same engine, which is set to deliver around 109bhp. A lot of names are rumoured such as, Teracor, Tribue, Taigun and Terasun
