The current generation X5 needs to receive its facelift, but we are already looking further into the future with the next gen X5. While the third generation X5 is based on a modified version of the second generation X5’s platform, the fourth generation X5 is said to be underpinned by the new CLAR (CLuster ARchitecture) rear-wheel drive platform that was first used for the new 7-series. The same platform will also be used for the third-gen BMW X3 and BMW X7. The CLAR gives BMW weight saving and modularity in powertrain application.
The styling will be more muscular, but stays true to the current design of the X5. Think of bigger kidney grilles and smaller headlights.
